The Log Home Neighborhood

An online log home community for log home enthusiasts.

Just a few things to look for when examining a potential log home purchase with chinking.  Thermal imaging revealed a poor chinking job showing 20+ degree temperature differences on just one corner of the log home.  Upon closer inspection, the wrong backer rod 'open cell' was used 20 years ago on this log home.  The open cell backer rod, especially on the exterior is now just a crumbly mess after being exposed to moisture for 2 decades.  The owner has been struggling through 3 different attempts at having contractors seal this 3000 sq ft. log home which has $1000+ per month propane bills.  The good news is that all of this can be fixed.  The job will include media blasting several coats of finish, removal of old chinking, re-staining, and chinking.
