What would be a reasonable cost per ton for stone for building a fireplace. Would $50/ton for reclaimed WPA sandstone be a good price?

Have any of you guys ever attempted to debark a tree and make your own bark siding ? its expensive to buy, I believe the co. I talked to was debarking polar trees in the spring, I want to know how to debark a tree in big sheets. Theres got to be a special tool for this. Chestnut bark siding used to last forever, but of course there was a blight, any and all input is welcome, Thank you !
Log home manufacturers have devised many ways to treat logs .Air drying,Kiln drying, borate treatments and others. Log cciespreservatives have come a long way in the 25 years I have been using them and they are more environmentally safe to use. I have built with oak, pine, and cedar. When you look at all the treatments and manufacturers systems used to stabilize their particular species it appears that they are trying to duplicate the properties of cedar. Cedar is the best insulator,is insect resistant, rot resistant, and stays beautiful longer. I know this topic will stimulate dialogue and that's good for us all. Jim and Pam Katahdin Cedar Log Homes
In 10 months working on my new log home, Randall (Randy) Langner - the owner of Native Construction - worked for about two weeks total. Never finished the house. Never paid subs. Received over $20k to buy materials and disappeared. Beware!
