I've noticed how very informed you seem to be when dealing with Sikkens.
I'm hoping you can advise me, as I am not very experienced with the product.
The house has Red Cedar Shingles which we washed according to proper procedure, ( TSP Bleach water mix with pump sprayer hard bristle brush scrub followed by power wash.)
The problem is most of the Black still remains, I applied bleach directly to a spot and it does not come off. Most of the Black seems to be trapped inside the previous coat of Cetol Log and Siding Translucent Satin which was done about 7 years ago. Do you recommend any other cleaner? Will I have to sand down with a sheet sander to remove this Black?
Also, what should I do with the badly weathered and flaking areas? Sand down to bare wood and spot with the Cetol Log and Siding Stain followed by a full coat on everything else? As you can see my experience is very limited.
I'm hoping you can point point me in the correct direction.

We found the solution for everyone with fly problems! www.denythefly.com A friend of ours found these people and recommended them to us. We can't thank them enough. Check out their website - - we have 1/10 the flies after they sealed our home. We have always been inundated with flies. Not anymore!!! We highly recommend them to all log home owners. What they did even made our house warmer - - no more drafts. And they were very professional - - the type of people you enjoy doing business with. The name of the company is "Deny The Fly Log Home Maintenance". Their number is 406-721-2399. They are located in Montana, but I do know that they travel.

One more question....IYHO would it be worth our while to order enough of the Stay Clean I/E for a five gallon bucket and use it when we do our maintenance coat in a couple years? Or would there be a shorter shelf life on it?

Charis, Hi. with the wealth of information/help you've given others here, we're hoping you can help us as well.
Our log home is a little over 1 year old. We've noticed some black spots on the underside of our entry porch roof beams (this is the only place we see anything like this). Wiping them with a damp rag, they fade a little, then return so we know it's not something as simple as dirt. We're thinking possibly mold and/or mildew? We'd like to get this under control as soon as possible to keep it from spreading/ getting worse.
What we know:
Stainers did NOT properly clean logs/posts/beams prior to staining.
Stain used is Sikkens Cetol 1 & 2/3 (Teak) which we love.
First, how do we determine for sure it is mold/mildew? What process/solutions would you suggest we use to take care of it?

- Hi Charis. We love our property. Its 10 acres almost all wooded with a great creek running thru it. The front, like in the picture is already cleared off. We planted several cherry and apple trees plus a variety of other trees and bushes to attract birds. We are fairly sure we will be going with Golden Eagle. We don't have the mountain views tho..... just none available at the current time in Kansas.....Been to Co. many times skiing in different resorts. I need to look up and see where Henderson is. I love the beauty of Co.
