There's something magical about the outdoors in the summertime. Having essentially grown up on lakes, I always seem to associate the months of July and August with boating, tubing and water skiing. I find solace relaxing on a deck, and listening to the sounds of fish jump in and out of water. And, of course, watching fireflies circulate through the…

Offering a timeless simplicity and functionality, Post and Beam log houses are becoming an appealing alternative to the traditional full scribe log homes. With about 75% of all Artisan log homes being post and beam construction, this style of log home is ideal for the person or family who are currently thinking about building their dream log…

I have watched, every aspect of log home manufacturers, management, over the years. I have seen many go out of business, through bankruptcy, whatever reason??? There are four companies, that have had the same Director of Dealer sales, and all four have gone under. Amerlink,( read news reports) went out, now I don't know if they re started under a different name or not, then there was Tennessee Log Homes,(bbb report) then Kuhns Brothers I have read (news articles) stopped their log home…

People often ask me what the advantages are of living in a log cabin home. Because I lived in Florida and now live in South Carolina, I tell them that for safety sake, as well as other personal reasons, my custom log home will weather most any storm and survive where frame homes and brick homes will not.

My wife and I have decided on the "corner/log style" of our log home. We like the saddlenotch style because it starts with a full log all the way around the foundation instead of 2 full logs and 2 half logs to begin the initial course of logs. It's just a cleaner look in our eyes.

Is anyone aware of any other manufacture that offers…
ContinueI had a good side nandina "fire power" bush growing for last 3 years.. Suddenly this year something has been knawing at the bark and broke the plant off close to it's base. It is in my front yard and haven't seen any animals around it. I have a matching bush on the other side of front steps and it is fine...
Any idea on what could have done this and what I can do to prevent it from getting to my 5-6 other nandina bushes??

I recently purchased a log home back in August, and I need to wash and re-seal the logs. I am looking for a safe and environmentally friendly logwash and sealant. I am new to all this and would love some advice. The companies that I have contacted to come out and do it basically told me it would be more cost effective for me to do it myself... where do I start? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
