Does anyone know any ghost stories about log cabins? Something spooky to scare the kids by the campfire? :-)
We will have our first trick-or-treaters in ten years tonight (
that's what happens when you live out in the boonies).
Hoping you and your family will have a fun,…

Sunday morning was a good time to go to the Log Home show... when I went it was practically dead, which meant I didn't have to fight the crowds to look at the stuff I wanted to look at. I meandered from display to display, taking my time, and not being jostled or having people step in front of me.
It also meant that I got to spend time talking with the fine folks that run this neighborhood, without competing with others for their attention! I spent a lot of time talking with Donna…

In light of much confusion (and perhaps bad instructions at the outset of the contest) we'd like to provide an update to our
Fall Photo Contest.
Here's what we're going to do:
Gather all images that are on the original blog post, and gather all images you send to us via email.
Yes, that's right. Please send us your photos via email (andrew@loghome.com or…

A while back Greg and I had decided to name our log home 'The Loons' Nest.' This was due to the loons on our lake and because I just love this bird! I wanted to put up a sign outside our log home to make it official and have been looking at many sign companies. I decided to go with Matthew Henry's
Lodge and Cabin Signs. He has a great selection and his prices are very reasonable.…

Green Energy Savings for Log Homes, Post and Beam Homes, and Timber Frame Homes
Congress has just given a generous boost to homeowners who want to convert their homes to solar energy or cut their electricity bills with a wind turbine. The "Energy Improvement and Extension Act of 2008" (the 2008 Energy Act), which was enacted on Oct. 3, 2008, contains tax breaks for homeowners who invest in a home solar-power system or small wind turbine. These tax breaks, when combined with…

In my previous post I complained about the bears being back in town and their fascination with my garbage. No sooner had we got the hot wire installed to foil their efforts - before we were again attacked by local wildlife. This time it was like an Alfred Hitchcock tale…
Yesterday afternoon my wife and I were sitting in my office talking about nothing in particular when we both heard this loud knocking…. I mean
LOUD. I looked out the window to the left and no one was at the…

The Log Home and Timber Show is just around the corner! At least, for those in the Northern Virginia area. Anyone planning on going? (I would expect to see the Log Home U staff there - it's all of what, a mile from your offices? ;-) Anyone want to meet n' greet and say howdy to your fellow Log Home Neighbors?
Chantilly Log and Timber Home Show Information
I plan on bringing my camera - so be prepared to have…

That is, show me the MONEY when it comes to YOUR photography...
Here's the idea: A photo contest! Now that most of the country is blessed with fall foliage painted in lovely hues of red, orange and rust, let's share those images with everyone in this community before the leaves fly. (And, if you haven't had a chance yet, check out Shelley's post where she shares
the view from her log home… Continue

Every morning around daybreak,
Lilly (our Great Pyrenees) and I take our walk. This exercise is as much for me as it is for her, because the trip home is all up hill for about 1/3 of a mile… a real heart-pumper.
At the end of our 1/3mi. drive is where we keep our trash bins because the garbage trucks can’t navigate our ‘hill’ (mountain) in the winter. Anyway, it keeps the trash away from the…

I've said it before and I'll say it again—you'll never find a more enthusiastic bunch than log home lovers!
Just wanted to send a quick "thank you" to everyone that's contributed to our new forum,
From the Editors. Not only did we get some great responses about DIY projects, but many of you sent in ideas for other topics to be…

Oh, those long-ago heady days just before the official start of summer...
June 18, to be specific. That's when I posted a headline here that said: "
Who's Afraid of the Big, Bad Economy?"
I defaulted to my optimistic mode and read the economic tea leaves, which, at the time, looked pretty damn good. Unemployment was low. Gross domestic product was robust. And, hey, who ISN'T optimistic…

The cost per square foot concept began about 35 years ago when the same style homes were built over and over again in the same community. It made construction and pricing simple. Over the years, we’ve seen builders construct standard model homes with a few different options to create a cost per square foot price in their large subdivisions. Unlike track homes, every detail in a custom home is unique. When building a custom home, the options available to you are limitless, making the cost per…

Well I havent posted any updates in a while but here goes... Had the Engineers come and perc test in the area where I wanted my septic system. It turns out they we very suprised at my choice sice it was exactly where they had suggested I place it after they finished the test. This is great as it allows me to stick to my site plans. They even asked me how i knew the best spot before they tested! LOL I guess I got lucky. I have also decided I am going to use a Presby Enviro-Septic® from Presby…

My idea is just a simple.
Could I import a used log home? Is it a possible in U.S. in reality?
If possible I want to import that log homes to my country.
Because most Americans are richer than Asians here.
If Someone who wants to rebuild his /her new log home in U.S., the one should pull out the old log homes but it is not waste policy if some Koreans rebuild it here in Asia.
Do you think this is practical idea and it's another a market…
