We were considering building an Amerlink Cimarron, We had pictures, prices, and preliminary plans but could not pull the trigger. Now the Amerlink company has closed, luckily with none of our money.
However we still like this home and floor plan. Does anyone out there have a set of plans for this home they would sell, or any idea of how I could get a set?

What did you get for Christmas?
Was Santa good to you -- and give you a favorite collectible for your log home? Or something you've been searching for?
Some close friends surprised us this year with these two wonderful antique oil paintings that we will display in our new log home which we are going to build in Kentucky.…

I'd like to have the members help me finish my design inside & out, we have a basic plan started, 1200 s.q. on main floor, 400 s.q. loft covering half of main floor, and a 1200 s.q. walkout basement. 9' walls main floor & basement. I started a wrap around porch with a screened in porch off the presumed kitchen this summer, only got the main decking finished, money is tight, weekend project out of pocket, The wiff wants two bedrooms on the main floor and a laundry room ,that makes things…

Hi, everyone! I have been playing with this cool design tool that is coming soon for my clients use. These are screen shots of what I am looking at as I virtually walk through the house. The new part is the cool shadows that are generated from each object. It makes the interior look more realistic for determining size of rooms etc. You can also hit the F8 key and you will jump into an orthographic view where…

How cool are these bowls from
Loyal Loot Collective? I love the contrast of the modern, high-gloss centers and the reclaimed-bark exteriors (from fallen trees down due to infrastructure, re-landscaping, droughts or stormy weather). You can find the bowls online at
Rose and Radish and…

Happy Holidays! Our contractor has suggested that we place our wood burning fireplace in the corner of the great room (rather than along one wall) to have more room for furniture against the wall and larger windows. I haven't been able to find many photos of this concept and wondered if someone was going this route. Pictures are much appreciated! Thanks.

It's so damn easy to write about great rooms and kitchens. They inspire us to clip pages from magazines and books and say breathlessly to anyone who will listen, "I will be the happiest I've ever been in THIS space."
And I believe it.
Well, sort of.
I would submit, however, that we're happiest in those spaces I call "Little Sanctuaries." I wrote about this in Log Home Living's January 2009 issue. Here's a little of what I said:
"We never had a…

Scratching your head for a really nice holiday gift that's both DIFFERENT and affordable? (Read: under $50).
I'm a little bleary-eyed today, because I discovered that gift.
I was up until 2 this morning writing a book for my wife for Christmas (she's not a jewelry gal). Yep, a book. Hardcover, linen book jacket, heavy-stock pages. It's gorgeous.
Oh, one thing: I wrote the book in about an hour. And within 5 or 6 days, I'll have the book in my hands. It will cost…

What do you all think of Masonry Heaters for log homes and timber frame homes?
I mean substituting these masonry units in the place of our traditional open fireplaces.
The variety of style is amazing.

Check out all the different creative ways to build
these units.
What do you think??
I haven't see any of these out west yet.
Do any of you in the…

Since my photo went up on the featured spot, I thought I would explain a little more about it.

I didn't want you to think that they had to make a door that fit into that pointy arch.

The frame wall is set back 2'-10" from the log wall and goes all the way to the roof. There is a settling detail at the roof line. Since there is… Continue

Tom starts:
"...Today we have one more reason to be thankful because we have an awesome interview below. Rick Friesen of Caribou Creek Log Homes is my guest and he has provided us with some very interesting comments and outstanding information about log homes, industry changes, the buying process and don’t miss his ‘check list’ and advice for new buyers - really…

Besides spending time decorating the heck out of our log home, I've been trying to do more crafty things since the holidays are fast approaching. I enjoy bird watching and seeing all the different birds that come to visit us. I decided my birds needed their own "edible" christmas tree and decorated a pine tree on our property w/ strung cranberry and popcorn as well as the famous pine cone feeders (smeared w/ peanut butter and rolled in seeds.)
For the pine cones feeders - gather some…

Just like to say hi. My husband and I have been dreaming for years to own a log home in the White Mountains of Arizona. Received the Log Home magazine about 15 years ago and just recently started it up again. Found this webpage and checked it out. Look forward to meeting all of you and keeping in touch.
