New Home Stains

I'm preparing to stain my newly constructed log home for the first time and as everyone here knows there are WAY too many options! I'm looking for input on what stain to use and why. Thanks in advance!

Energy Codes

After the last few years of planning we've finally gotten to the point of applying for a building permit. When I got to the building department tonight I learned that the town has adopted the "stretch code" which is apparently a much more stringent building code that, as far as I can tell, requires a minimum of an R-38 wall insulation. I'm not sure if this is confined to Massachusetts or if it has spread nationally but it appears to me as if the log home industry has a lot to lose from this.…

Random length logs?

I'm wondering if anyone has an opinion on random length log kits. I've been focusing on pre-cut kits but I'm begining to wonder if the random length kits would be something I'd be interested in. I'll be assembling the home myself so I know that it will add to my work load but if there is a substantial savings it may be worth the extra work. Has anyone built a random length kit?

New England area log homes

I'm in the planning stages of building a log home. We have purchased land & have a floor plan that's constantly changing but so far they are minor changes but I think we're 90% of the way there. I've looked at quite a few log home dealers but I'm getting a good vibe from Real Log Homes.
