Wow, it's been awhile!

Ok, guess we got lazy once we finally moved in and haven't uploaded any pics or comments in awhile!  Oops.

So, we put up some pics to show our progress.  We don't have much left inside.  We need to tile a shower and finish the basement steps and that's about it!  We do have lots to do outside though, lots of landscaping, walls to build, driveways to top, grass to plant, porches to build, porch ceilings and more.

Since we last posted, we have made lots of progress. We've been in…

Done, well kind of!

Well, yes we are kind of done.  We finally moved back in mid-July.  As a result of that move and the packing of the card reader for the camera, we are somewhat behind posting pics and updating everyone.  Oh, and we've been busy too!

But, anyway, we are here finally.  We still have a few odds and ends to finish up, mainly the ceilings on the porches and drywall in the basement.  We are waiting for our window and door trim to show up.  We are having a bunch of old red pine made…

6 Weeks later, how many to go?

Hi Everyone!

It's been about six weeks since our last update and we are starting to put on the finishing touches.  Check out our new pictures.  (we misplaced the camera for a few weeks, so we are missing a few!)

So, since last update, we've gotten all our fixtures hung and the lone missing one finally made it's way from China.  It was only ordered in November!  Guess better late than never since it matched all our other lights.

First, we got…

Coming together, one step at a time

Hey all, just a quick update as to what's happening with us.  Other than keeping more than busy, just putting up with the rain.

But, we have made much progress since our last post.  We finally have all the heat down in the entire house.  As you can see in our newly added pics, we went with an above the subfloor radiant heat system on the first floor.  Its a really neat system.  It's made up of alumninum tracks in which the pex tubing is snapped in place.  It has plywood…

Getting Closer!

Hey everybody, it's been some time since our last update.  Hopefully that means we've been busy and haven't had time to be on the computer much!  And, for the most part it does.  So, what have we accomplished since last update?

Well, all the ceilings are hung.  All the interior walls are hung.  Everything was cleaned/sanded and stained.  The log walls got one coat of stain, and the interior walls we coated twice.  We noticed the log walls were a much warmer color, so we tried…

Working Away

Hey everyone, just a quick update to let you know where we stand.  Since our last post, we have 97% of the ceilings hung.  Just waiting for a bathtub so we can hook the drain up and then finish the ceiling and a little more in the master bath.

As well, about 93% of the interior walls are hung.  We've spiced things up and did some vertical and some horizontal.  We think they look good and kind of break things up a little.

This weekend, we sanded all the exterior log walls in…

Our Christmas Miracle

Well, it only took 2 and half months, but the roof is finally finished.  100%.  Looks good.  A few days before Christmas the roof was finally done!  That allowed us to finally go hog wild getting ceilings hung.  We posted a few pics of the ceilings going up at that point.

Since then, the GC got the high ceilings hung and the doormers pretty much done.  As we mentioned before, we prestained all our ceiling material.  Since it was stained, they also did the trim (also…

Hey everyone--it's been about a month since our last post.  While it seems like we didn't accomplish much, I guess when you step back and look at the big picture, we have.  So as you can see by the title of the post, YES, we are still messing with the roof.  But, we only have 1 day of some trim work left, so hopefully tomorrow we can close a chapter on it.  The weather turned pretty cold and started snowing a few weeks ago, so once again, weather delayed our roof project longer than we…

I think the title just about sums up things lately. We're pushing 5 weeks on our roof project, and while we are finally on the last main portion, the weather forecast looks pretty bad for roofing this week.

Way back when, we fell in love with this roof and decided to go with a standing seam roof system, with hidden fasteners. While it looks really good, it's really been kicking our butts.

We've had to overcome a bunch of obstacles and it's been taking for ever to get this… Continue

Six weeks since our last update, and geez time flies. Seems like things have slowed down on our build, yet we have made some good progress since last update. So, where do we start. . . .

Well, the general contractor has moved out for the most part. They finished up the majority of the items outside and turned over the inside to us. Since that time, we've done a lot, although things inside sure do seem to be moving more slowly. We made some progress on electrical, probably 97% of the… Continue

Another month, lots of progress!

Well, another month has gone by since our last update, and we've made a bunch of progress again. At times, it seems like we haven't made any progress, but we really have when it comes right down to it. Sorry for the delay in the posting, but times flies by when all you do is work and work!

We've done a bunch of staining. We have 4 coats on the top half of the house and 3 coats on the lower portion. We decided that once the metal roof is on, it's going to be very difficult to stain the… Continue

Wells, Porches and Staining!

Well, it’s been a couple more weeks and while things were slow with the builder, they certainly were not slow out at the site! We got the well finished and hooked up, and it appears we have lots of water and water of fairly decent quality. We ended up drilling 460 feet, but believe we have over 30 gallons a minute. Since we hit water around 200, that gives us 240 feet of reservoir to hold water.…

Half a month from our last post and what progress we have made!

Well, it's been about half a month since our last post, and we've made some progress! Take a look at our pics and you can see the progress. You'll see that the dormers are framed out and that they have the roof sheeting on the main house. It's been nice to get at least get the sheeting on, as now we can keep the majority of the inside of the house dry. (with the large front windows though and no porch yet, we…

Moving right along!

Well it's been a little over a week since our last post, and they've made a bunch of progress. All the walls are now up. They placed the main roof beam one day last week. It's 38 feet long and is a 5 inch by 15 inch glue-lam beam. Not sure how heavy it is, but from what the guys said, it took a good part of the day to hoist it up there by hand. Once it was there, they got a few rafters set up that…

Another week, another log. Well, a couple logs to be exact!

Well, we're still making progress. While things slowed down from the first couple days, they are still moving right along. Take a look at our newest pics and you can see the progress.

We got through last week, although everything seemed to be a blur with all that was going on with our lives. As you can see, all the…

Log Stacking - Happy Days, Yet a Difficult Week.

Hi Everyone,

Well the logs finally arrived on site this week. On day one, they got everything laid out and the first course down. That was Tuesday. It rained all day on Wednesday, so needless to say, there was no action, unless you were a duck!

Day two was picture perfect. Bright and sunny and lots of fluffy clouds. The crew was doubled up today, and they made much progress. By the end of the day, they had 8 courses of logs stacked. It's really starting to look like something.…

Finally some real movement!

Spring has sprung and so has our action. So much has happened since our last post a month ago. We now have power, they set the pole, the electrician set our panel box. Once it was inspected, we got our cut-in card sent in and the power company showed up the next day. Right now, our meter has all zero's on it. Too bad that won't last!…

Almost time!

Hey everybody! Well, it's about time to start this house building project full swing. We closed on our construction loan last week and are now ready to get things rolling. We posted some pictures of our latest projects.

The driveway is finished and our parking area is all graded and ready for parking! The septic line is to the house and the conduit for the utilities is run from where the pole is going to the foundation. We started laying out the lines for the floor drains in the…

Where to begin? Winter!!

Well, where do we begin?

I guess we'll just say winter came. After a wonderful fall which we got a great start on things, winter came just a little too quick. Add to the mix a couple of bouts of pneumonia for both of us and a little OT at work dealing with the snow, and here we are in March. We did make a…

One Big Hole and Lots of Dirt!

Well, another week has passed and it seems we have finally made some real progress. The driveway is cut in and we got the majority of it stoned up to the point of where we need to move some dirt around the foundation and parking area to catch grade to keep water away from the house.

In addition, the foundation has been dug. All the dirt has either been put around the sand mound to cover it and blend it into the surrounding area so it’s not as noticeable. The sand mound took a lot of… Continue
