My husband and I have spent a couple recent weekends house hunting around Northern Virginia. We’re not yet in a place where we can build a custom home, but we’ve still compiled quite a lengthy wants-and-needs list for our prospective home. My husband’s No. 1 must-have is a sizeable kitchen with tons of storage, an island or breakfast bar and gas cooking fuel. The features topping my list? Walk-in closets and a roomy master bath, preferably with a jetted soaking tub.
So when I had the opportunity to travel to Chicago for the National Kitchen and Bath Association
’s annual trade show, The Kitchen/Bath Industry Show (also called K/BIS
), I jumped at the chance. Where else can you find the latest and greatest in plumbing fixtures, like faucets, tubs and showerheads, along with new appliances and other home innovations? It’d be like shopping for my dream home’s top rooms for three straight days!
In the September issue of Log Home Design
(on newsstands July 15th), I’ll be unveiling my top product picks from K/BIS, but I wanted to give all of the kitchen and bath fanatics out there a sneak peek at three other great finds. Behold:
Appliance manufacturer Dacor
introduced its new Preference line of glass-front appliances in six ultra-sexy hues. Blue Water is the color shown here, but Slate Green was my personal favorite. With open-plan homes, a kitchen's style is leaking into the surrounding rooms. With these jazzy fridges, ovens, microwaves and more, you'll make a bold statement.
Or, for the bath or powder room, check out:
launched its new Naru suite at K/BIS. Its Asian-inspired design is modern and sleek, yet classic enough to endure. Plus, I love that its simple lines would make it a snap to clean!
And, of course, your kitchen’s not complete without the perfect countertop:
DuPont’s quartz line, Zodiaq
, has revealed a new line of countertops that feature at least 50 percent pre-consumer recycled glass, making it a gorgeous and
green counterop solution! The collection will be available beginning in July 2008 through DuPont distributors.
And while the reality is that I might be a year or two away from my new home, at least I know exactly what's going in it! Stay tuned for our September issue, which will be chock-full of even more great kitchen and bath products to inspire you and your log home's design.
