When I took my promotion as Log Home Deisgn editor-in-chief a little more than two years ago, I knew my new post would require me to wear many hats: writer/editor (a position I was as well versed in), manager (a new one to me), keeper of the purse strings (years of household budgeting prepared me for this one) ... but emcee??? That wasn't exactly in the initial job description. Yet, at our dinner gala for the recipients of our 2nd Annual Log Home Design Awards held in Orlando on March 8, that's where I found myself: standing in front of a crowd of coworkers and clients, microphone in hand, battling to be heard above the muffled song of the future American Idol hopefuls at the karaoke bar next door. As a general rule, public speaking doesn't make me freeze in my tracks, but sitting behind the safety of my desk, spending some quality time with the written word is much more in the realm of my comfort zone.
Nevertheless, I've been told that the evening went off without a hitch. The food was great; the conversation, lively; the awards ceremony, itself, fun; and yours truly did ok, too. :-)
The point of the event was to celebrate the best, most innovative ideas in log home design, and I think we accomplished that goal successfully. So since it was such a raging success, I thought I'd share a few insider snapshots of the night with you. (My lovely assistant handing out the awards is none other than our VP of Sales, Joe Varda.)
