I just traveled back in time. At least it felt like it. My husband, daughter and I just returned from an extended 4th of July weekend at his aunt and uncle's lakeside vacation house at Indian Lake, Ohio
. On the 4th itself, 14 of us gathered for an old-fashioned family picnic, where we chowed down on burgers and watermelon, played lawn games (I learned the art of "cornhole
"--a beanbag-toss game that's all the rage in the Midwest), and did cannonballs from the dock (well, the kids did anyway). On Saturday we took the pontoon boat out to a manmade beach, which, for the holiday, also boasted a classic car show and tons of greasy-good carnival food (funnel cakes and corndogs anyone?). Later that afternoon, we enjoyed the fireworks show from the boat. It was the kind of laid-back weekend that lingers with you long after you've rejoined the rat race.
But even on vacation, log homes are never far from my mind, and on this particular trip, I found a few waterfront beauties that I just had to share. So here are a few photos from my All-American weekend. Hope you enjoyed your Independence Day as much as I did.
