4 Ways to Build up Your Survival Bunker

If you’re building a survival bunker, it’s extremely important to make it as secure and self-sufficient as possible. Your bunker is your last resort if things go extremely wrong, meaning it should be prepared for the worst possible scenarios. Here are four of the best things you can do to beef up your survival bunker and ensure that it’s ready when the time comes.

Put Your Bunker on a Well

Storing bottled water is an important and time-tested survival strategy, but it has its limits. In the event of a scenario bad enough that your bunker becomes necessary, you may end up without access to water for a prolonged period of time. For this reason, it’s a good idea to install plumbing via a well. It’s also useful to install a generator, since you’ll need electricity to power the well pump.

Remember a Sump Pump

Assuming your bunker is below ground level, you’ll need to account for the possibility of water getting in during rainstorms. Excess water can ruin your food stores, destroy electronics and damage your ammunition reserves. When building your bunker, be sure to plan on a sump pump and drainage system that will keep you and your supplies safe.

Build Up Thicker Walls

One of the most common reasons for building a survival bunker has been as a safe shelter in the event of a war breaking out. To withstand that kind of scenario, though, you need much more than a basic construction scheme. Consider getting a concrete services company to come out and pour a stronger foundation and build extra-thick walls that can withstand impacts and concussive force.

Install an Air Filtration System

In the event of a major disaster scenario, you never know what could get into the air. Dust, chemical fumes or pathogens are just a few of the things that could get into your bunker and compromise your health. To keep these contaminants at bay, it’s a good idea to install an air purifier or air filtration system in your bunker.

By taking these four steps, you can build a survival bunker that’s ready for just about anything. Keep in mind that you may have to build it up in stages, but the end result will be worth the effort for the safety, security and peace of mind it gives you in the event of a major emergency.
