The rules don't appear to have any restrictions on it, but you may want to call to double check. The phone number is listed, along with the rest of the rules, here:

Hmmmmm.....wonder if someone from Canada can buy a ticket?

I still think its a great idea and i don't find anyone bending my arm behind my back forcing me to put down a hundred hard earned uneducated dollars. If your going to be a party to any give-a-way you should always educate yourself as to what your responsibility's are. If you can afford it... dive in, cross your fingers and have fun. A little research is always prudent. Your dark cloud will break into a rainbow for someone.

Well, a little reality never hurt anyone--too much :) Unfortunately, you're correct, Shad. I've read similar stories related to the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition projects, and I'm sure winners of car giveaways find themselves in the same crunch (except those individuals blessed to live in a state with no car tax, I suppose). I guess there really is no such thing as a free handout, but it's certainly nice to think about. Consider me a glass-half-full kind of person.

Plus, if I really wanted to get precise, it's not a "pure" log home, given all the additions. I guess I should have said hybrid instead.

I'd hate to pay taxes on that thing.

Seriously, while it's a good cause (and granted, I didn't read too deeply into it), if the winner is responsible for taxes, that'll be a good chunk of change. Not to mention not having a mortgage of any kind, you lose the tax write-off for the interest.

I read a story awhile back about a winner of a house from HGTV and how badly they ended up being shafted on taxes and being unable to sell the house.

Granted, if you win, you could probably sell it for a lot less than the house is worth, especially in today's market...

Aren't I just a little black storm cloud on the horizon of a good cause. *sheesh*

I agree; any time others can benefit from this type of sale or activity is a win-win situation by me. Glad to hear the news is spreading!

what a great idea for a fundraiser. I just passed this info off to a VP at LA Family Housing.
