The Log Home Neighborhood

An online log home community for log home enthusiasts.

I have been researching log home manufactures for 3 yrs now. I have boiled it down to 4 Log Home Council Members: Appalachian Log Home Structures, Gastineau Log Homes, Hochstetler Milling and Honest Abe Log Homes.

I have visited all 4 and cannot put forth a bad word for any of them. They all have their "niche" that separate one from another thru there experience in the industry over the years.

Customer service is at the top of the list at all of them for sure. All I can do is offer up a floor plan to all and compare prices at this point. Add in a builder and everything else and we'll see who comes out on top. I do have to do my do diligence and compare "apples to apples" packages so I don't rule out a company unfairly.

This has been harder than I thought but this is the first time I have had a chance to build from scratch (new) also.

Can anybody share with me there experience of any of the above mentioned both good or bad...?

Remember a builder can ruin a good manufacture and it's product so don't confuse that in your response.

Thanks for hearing me out. Any all comments is very much appreciated!

Hi Mike,

If you find any possibility of putting up your experience in marketing our products, into which we can cater directly to the consumers will be a good idea. You may visit our webpage to check our the products we carry! We are interested to find someone who can market our products like pine wood houses and decking woods, particularly anything in wood! Do let us know if you need any clarifications from our side?

James, Thank You for your response. I attended a Log Home Show in Branson, Mo 2-3 years ago and talked with a Katahdin Cedar rep. at the show. What struck me was how he "belittled" the other manufactures. I left there thinking this is how you have to make your product look good is to put forth the imagine that everyone else is bad..........? It rubbed me the wrong way. Should I paint the whole company (Katahdin) with a wide brush because of this guy, no but it didn't set well with me.

Hello Folks, Before you make your final decision you owe it to yourself to check out Cedar. Katahdin Cedar Log Homes will give you a free quote and plug you into their Dealer/Builder Network to get a turn key price. They have been in business for 40 years and they will match or beat the price of pine. Thank you, Jim Harbin Dealer/Builder for Katahdin Cedar Log Homes in the Mid Atlantic Region
