The neighborhood owl has returned. Gabriel spotted it on his property in the soft evening light. Darien has seen it as well. We can hear its haunting call echoing through the trees at different hours of the day. Many of the branches are still barren of leaves, so it is easier at this time of year to spot when it is perched high above us. Sometimes I will be looking at the ground and see its shadow sweep across my vision, even though I don't see the bird itself. I'm wishing it the best of luck in its hunt for field mice around the cabin.
