Well, today could be considered the start. We picked up our sewage permit today, finally approved after what seemed like forever, but was only 4 months! We had a family friend come and witch a well location for us and met with the excavator who is going to start the septic this week. Still finalizing the plans though. Hoping to have them finalized soon, so we can apply for our mortgage and break ground in November and build over the winter. While concerned somewhat with building over winter, we've decided it will be better than waiting until spring and dealing with the wet season, although snow, wind and freezing temperatures still concern us somewhat.
We've been blessed to be able to be at this point in our lives to still be young and building the house of our dreams. Starting with the awesome location which is located outside Loretto, PA on the land of Amber's grandparent's former dairy farm. Located on top of the pasture field and a view for miles, we'll enjoy it for years to come. Check it out here
, although this doesn't do it justice! We've been working with the builder since April drawing out a floor plan and tweaking it ever since. Guess it's best to get it right the first time! Since then, we've been out to the land many times, looking and dreaming, trying to find the perfect spot to put the house. We've been through soil probes and perc tests which seemed to take forever.
We savaged old wood out of a former building that was torn down over the summer. We found newspapers that were all in German and later found some in English with dates of 1863. We're unsure what we are going to do with all the lumber, but hope to incorporate it into some flooring or interior wall paneling. We do have several neat beams that we hope to make a mantel for the fireplace or use on the ceiling.
We have many ideas and dreams and hope to bring them all into fruition over the next several months. Our intent is to utilize this blog to keep all our friends and families informed of the process and where we stand. We'll be posting some pictures along the way, and of course our thoughts, trials and tribulations as well. We thought it’d be a good way to document our build and do an online scrapbook. Stop back and check out our site once in awhile and let us know what you think. We hope you come enjoy our home with us once it’s done!
