Hey Dee, hope you guys made it back from the show in one piece! It was nice to put a face to the posts. Shot me over your email and I will send you the photo's I took with you and Dan.... firstname.lastname@example.org
My lot has an existing Septic system, but I can find out who to use. Jerry Koski is lining up The Excavator and basement guys so he could better tell you than I. I'm talking to him this week, and will ask.
Hi, my site is just outside of Ontonagon, maybe 15 miles from Silver City. Jerry is working to get the concrete guy lined up to do the basement as soon as weather permits. He needs one or two days to put the walls up, so everything should begin soon.
Hi Dee! I have to admit - I DO have a great job! :)
To answer your question, we do not bring the show over to the west coast as much as I would like. Trust me - I tried my best to get California added this year, but the economy was working against me. Most of our exhibitors are based in the northeast and southeast parts of the country, so when we do go out west, it is hard to get enough exhibtors out there to make it worth while - to exhibitors AND consumers.
However... we do have a show scheduled in Scottsdale, Arizona on November 6-8, 2009. The dates are still tenative though... We are testing a new concept - a "Living West" show. We are partering with other magazines from Active Interest Media (American Cowboy and Southwest Art) to create a western living themed show. Our first show like this will be in Dallas from February 6-8, 2009. If this show goes well, we will certainly be going to Scottsdale come November. More on this whole Living West concept to come very soon... I will keep you posted!!!
So we are neighbors, I'm in Toluca Lake, by Universal, a bit smokey today. Your plans it seems are moving right along. Congrats on your land on the lake. I remember the day we closed on our land in Montana. My wife and i have been dreaming of building our home in Montana and the land is always a must.
Regarding rental of your home, its a good idea and it works. My brother has a cottage, 3 bedroom 2 bath, 1600ft on Beaver Island in the middle of north lake Michigan, about 9 years old. He rents the home for$1800 a week, comes with bikes, canoe, screened porch and gourmet kitchen. He rents it out about 10 weeks a year and pays all expense of the house and has never had any problems. By the way, great photos. Nothing quite like the Great Lakes.
You say you will rent out the cabin to help pay the bills. We are dealing with that issue right now. $3400 in heat and snow plowing last winter. Should we close it for the winter or rent it out to help with the nut. I can't get pass the thought of strangers staying in my sweat and equity. It is not just a second home to me because I physically and mentally put so much in it. We, maybe to friends and family only. Good luck when your time comes. You will go thru the same thing.
Hi Dee,, the property looks great. this is a nice site. we bought a half acre in a sub-divsion going up which will be all timber frame and log homes only. a community center with pool will be in by july 09. we sold our home in Florida and am renting back for 6 months. we signed a contract with Log Homes of the Smokies and hopefully will start building within a month or so. we are excited.
