A New Product I A-door*

Behold, a new design from Peachtree Doors and Windows: Cool, huh? The new Rustic Collection line features entry doors in a plank-style, knotty alder design. But there's a twist—it's actually made of durable fiberglass! I think it's a great solution… Continue

Dreaming of the Green Life

Everywhere you turn, people are talking about “green.” Maybe it’s because Earth Day was Tuesday, but I’m noticing it even more lately, which I why I’m so excited about our new green-themed issue of Log Home Design. In fact, I got the chance to interview the granddaddy of all environmentalists, Ed Begley, Jr., for our “Chat” department. And, no—I stil… Continue

Appliances and Faucets and Counters, Oh My!

My husband and I have spent a couple recent weekends house hunting around Northern Virginia. We’re not yet in a place where we can build a custom home, but we’ve still compiled quite a lengthy wants-and-needs list for our prospective home. My husband’s No. 1 must-have is a sizeable kitchen with tons of storage, an island or breakfast bar and gas cooking fuel. The features topping my list? Walk-in closets and a roomy master bath, preferably with a jetted soaking tub. So when I had the opportunit… Continue

Leah;
Thanks for the welcome. We plan to move in to the cabin over July 4th week-end and are very excited. Living in the same home for 30 years gives us little experience on moving into and decorating an empty home. We are trying to keep it as simple as possible. Retirement and possible sale of the farm to live in the cabin full time will mean moving some posessions to the cabin. How do we pick and choose? Now is the time to sort and pitch but it won't be easy! Still, life is sooo good!

Our Log Home is our cottage. It truly represents what we wanted as a get away from the hustle of daily work life. To us the Log Home represents a simpler more relaxed time and 30 seconds after entering the relaxation mode has kick in. The only challenge my wife faces is my completion speed on certain projects, the rock wall has been a 5 year project, some lights are still a bare bulb pig tailed to the electrical outlet and the landscaping in the back is a collection of rock for the wall, the fire pit patio and now the lakeside patio. But hey it’s a cottage and it wouldn’t be if I had nothing to do when I got up there. I will post pictures soon, one thing we are terrible at is taking pictures.
