We are currently in the final stages of building a vacation log cabin that has been our dream for several years. The cabin is located on a 4 acre pond in the middle of 30 secluded acres in the beautiful rolling hills of Charlotte County, VA.
Are you lucky enough to be living in a log home?

DEADLINES!!

Well we've put a deadline on completion of our cabin. We want to move furniture in on Labor Day. And since the deadline was developed, every day feels like a "labor day". I'm sure all of you who have gone before me can attest to the rigors of wrapping up construction. We will visit our cabin every weekend (and have for the last two weeks) to finish the chinking, clean, finish the painting, clean, install various fixtures and hardware, clean, finalize arrangements with pest control, security, pho… Continue

Anne - you are too kind! Thank you so much! I've been looking at your slideshow and I love that granite you have in the kitchen, your shower is fantastic (I now wish I had seen this 1st before finishing our bathroom in the basement) and your lake looks lovely (quiet & serene - am I right?

Anne,

Looking at your pictures and notice that you are building a walk-in shower. We are planning to do the same thing in the log cabin we are building. May I ask what you used for the shower and do you have any other pictures of it?

Hi Anne, your pictures are awesome as well. And, nope not moved in yet. The contractor is hoping to have things ready to have the final inspection this week. But he says they always find a few things to fix. If that goes as planned, we are hoping to move in Labor Day Weekend also. It has been a very long process - dont want to bore you with details but it has not been as smooth as it should have been. Will post pictures when its done. Hope you meet your Labor Day schedule also.

Anne;
know exactly what you're talking about. Bought the land last September. They started building the log home in May. Have been dealing with the final things to do. Hard wood flooring installations, Propane people, and getting the certificate of occupancy. Been living there on weekend even before the bathrooms were fininished. Still alot to do, but I can't be there enough.

Hello Anne,

Hey, you made my day! Our mantra around here is pretty simple: inspire and educate. So when I hear that we've helped a reader, it's wonderfully gratifying. Seriously. We dig helping people achieve their dreams, larger or small.

Your house sounds great. Please send pictures sometime...my email is mmccarthy@homebuyerpubs.com.

In the meantime, enjoy your evening-----looks like it's about to storm here in Virginia...and I have a baseball game tonight. Yes, still actually play baseball (not softball) with a bunch of guys I played with is high school and college. Man, we're soooooo much slower now, but actually having more fun.

Take care,

Mike

It's gorgeous! I love the effect on the backsplash. What kind of granite is that?

Thanks Anne! We will be up in Hillsville on the 4th of July. There is fireworks, wine tasting and lawnmower races in the nearby county of Floyd. Then we drive to Chicago for business. I can't wait to start on the log home. But I will take my time and find the right floor plan first. We have 13 acres on top of a Mountian next to the Blue Ridge Parkway and I want to make sure that everything has the perfect view.

I love the pictures of your log home. It's very much the house that we are thinking of. The only difference is that we are up in the mountains and you are on a lake (which also could be up in the mountains).

I notice in one of the pictures that you have a apron sink. Would you mind sharing with us who you bought the sink from. I am trying to find a 30" sink for about $600.00 and can't seem to find one ... if it exists. My other question is also about the sink. I have been told that they are difficult to install and if you are sloppy you will blow the scribing on the front part of the sink where it fits in. Did you have any problems?
