Tell us about yourself:
My wife, Kay, & I live in Thorn Hill in upper east Tennessee. Thorn Hill is an unicorporated collection of homes and barns hanging on for dear life to Clinch Mountain.

According to census figures the population in July 2007 was 1,373 souls (maybe more - maybe less two years up the road I suppose) - lots of cows, deer, rabbits, coyotes, stray dogs and more birds than I've ever seen.

We live in a timber frame/log home on the side of a spur that runs off off Clinch Mountain. The house is new. We moved in at the end of March. We're working out the bugs with our builder, Peter.

Every day brings its share of fresh surprises and each day is better than the day before. This is Paradise no matter how you cut it.

We are next-door neighbors to Robert Combes & his wife, Susan. and Marsha (Many Ponies) Raymond and her husband Sky. Both Robert and Many Ponies are members of this online group.

We look forward to living on Clinch Mountain for a very long time.

You are indeed a word-smith that can paint "pictures" with words.
The Adirondacks is a great place to spend a chunk of your life! We couldn't afford the land to build up there. We plan to build in Smyrna NY [not TN]; a small private lake but great fishing and kayaking. Webster is a suburb of Rochester NY. 2 .5 hours from our lake.
Enjoy your summer in the mountains on your porches. Keep a journal and share your thoughts with folks lucky enough to read them.
Regards, Norb

great to hear you are enjoying TN!! Yeah, I do not watch the weather. I just walk out side look to the west, and you will be able to predict what is coming!

You guys are in the tornado area. It seems most bad weather stays north of the Knox valley and you end up with some nice storms. Good to be in a log home, right!!

Again, good to hear from you and maybe we will cross paths sometime!

Best regards,

wow, do I envy you (or is envy a bad thing?). As I mentioned, my neighbor went down over a thousand feet and was only able to pull out 4 gallons per minute. His cost, including drilling , pipes and pumps came to over $20,000 dollars not to mention the oversized collection tank he had to install to hold the pumped water. This scares me a lot.

My property is near Waynesville, NC. My land is up around the 3800 elevation. I'll have to speak to other neighbors to find out what their well drilling experience was like. I look forward to reading more about your progress. Although my house plans are in place, I still have to sell my existing house here in Sarasota FL. so it my be a while before we can break ground. Hi CR, I just got around to reading about the progress you are making. I'm very much interested in the well you just finished drilling. How far did you have to go down and how much water are you pumping per minute? I just need to get a better handle on the whole issue of drilling for water. My next door neighbor had to go down a thousand feet and he is only getting 4 gallons a minute. I'm sure you will appreciate his well cost. I'm hoping and praying that I wont have to go down that far. Ted

One week until you move! I'd love to see pix of the inside of your home here once your honey works her magic on the decorating.
