Profile Information

Tell us about yourself:
I am a long time log home lover. The "got the magazines, been to shows -- have t-shirt" kinda thing.

Since 2003 I have been involved with Caribou Creek Log Homes, a Handcrafted log home company in North Idaho. I started in the construction yard, but have moved to several positions in and out of the office as the need arose.

Currently, I am still wearing many hats -- my semi-official working title is: Sales, Operations, and Project Management Support.

I'm hoping to feed my log home addiction through this community and meet some really great people in the process.

I live in North Idaho on acreage with my lovely wife Shanna and our German Shepherd named Kyra. Beside log homes, we also love working with young people in our community. And I talk too much...
Are you lucky enough to be living in a log home?
I do live (and love) a rural lifestyle, but no personal log castle yet!

Alpine Log Homes Closes Doors -- Sad Day

I just found out today that Alpine Log Homes has closed its doors permanently, citing economic conditions.

It was one of the largest and most well known handcrafted log home companies in the Americas.

We wish everyone there the best of luck in their new endeavors!

We are sad to see you go!

I have that link now. Tom has done a great job with his blog and the interview process! I sure appreciated his input!

Tom starts:

"...Today we have one more reason to be thankful because we have an awesome interview below. Rick Friesen of Caribou Creek Log Homes is my guest and he has provided us with some very interesting comments and outstanding information about log homes, industry changes, the buying process and don’t miss his ‘check list’ and advice for new buyers - really… Continue

And so it begins...

I have always wanted a blog... and now I are one!

Here is my start to what I hope is a great way to make some new friends and help the log home community with whatever my knowledge can cover.

I know there are varied opinions as to "Professional Bloggers" on so I want to be sensitive to that. My goal is to be helpful wherever I can. Not a sales nut. If I cross that line please tell me.

For the immediate future, I just finished an interview with Tom… Continue

Okay, that answers that. You really look like another guy I met there. Yeah, what a month-- here too. We have never had so much snow. But it is all gone now. That is how it is on the coast. We are back to normal gray skies and a bit of drizzle.
Take care!.

No, I don't think Caribou has built one of mine. Maybe just bidding. They get passed around a lot for bidding.
Do you attend ILBA confrences?
Maybe I met you in Coeur d'Alene?

Hey Rick, welcome to the 'hood'. I'm sure that a lot of folks on this board will appreciate chatting with someone of your experience. Now you'll need to watch that guy Ed Roane... he's trying to be a Montanan, but so far we can't get him out of California :-)

Welcome, its a nice bunch of people and there's always some great commentary.

Bonner's Ferry, I love the drive from Spokane up to Bonners Ferry, down the grade and crossing the river and turning east on HW2. I have land between Libby and Kalispell and have always enjoyed that trip once you cross the bridge until it hit Thompson Lakes... then just around the next corner is the old Lang Ranch and then Home.
