An article about rot by our President, Rod Rodriguez....

The main component of any wood is cellulose, which serves as the primary source of nutrition for both insects and decay fungi. The biggest enemy to wood is moisture. When untreated wood is exposed to the elements, to weather and particularly to moisture, decay fungi can establish very quickly and rot can occur in just a few short…

Check it out! "6 Easy Steps to Maintaining Your Cabin" by Beth Borrego, appearing May 2009 in Country's Best Log Homes Cozy Cabin Issue!

Hooray! This past February when I was thinking warm thought I was asked to write an article for the Cozy Cabin issue on maintenance. I just got my copy today, and am excited. My hat's off to the editors, who of course put out wonderful magazines. Thanks for the opportunity to be a part of this issue!

Avoid the "P" word... (paint)

As log home enthusiasts who live vicariously through caring for other people's log homes, we would be remiss if we did not caution those of you building or buying an existing log home about the "p" word. Paint and logs are not a good combination. When moisture becomes trapped in the wood, your logs are more susceptible to rot. We have worked on painted homes before, where owners who purchased a log home that was previously painted, had no idea their logs were infested with rot. Wood needs to… Continue

As far as I know right now, the company will be there. We've not been told yet exactly who is going to be working the booth. I just know many have cut back on the # of shows they're attending this year.

Beth, We've got to stop posting on the same discussions at precisely the same time.... LOL

Thank you for directing him to those pics. That is a darker color than I would like, but that's just a matter of opinion, everyone has different tastes. Just wanted to say good job, it looked great.

Are you guys doing any Home Shows this Fall?

Heh - thanks for the comment on the picture. That was from last Halloween. It was a total throw-together-at-the-last-minute costume that consisted of a black shirt with wide masking tape giving me stripes, the glasses and bat antenna. So I was a bee. Then a made a sign that said "Boo!" and draped it over my neck, making myself a boo-bee. Made me laugh at least :)

Yes I did receive your package and we will share your information with our customers and any other log home owners that contact us. I have a question for you. We are seriously considering taking the stain off of the outside of our log home and restaining it a lighter color. What is the best way to do this and what would the cost be?

Well I was going to the Dallas Show in Feb. but I heard it's postponed until the fall. Perma-Chink will be in Nashville and Orlando. Not sure about fall shows yet.

Thanks, We are having a bad run, hope we will hear from some of the people we contacted in reference to AmerLink In the Woods logHomes. If anyone out there are even thinking about
using them please just throw your money out the window of a moving car. You will never get
it back nor will you ever get your home.

Please send us some of your advertising material and we will let all of our customers know about you. We are already delivering two log homes in the beginning of this year and a possibility of five more by the summer. We would much rather recommend people in the business of log homes than a beginner. Our mailing address is: Heritage Log Homes of Southeast Virginia, P. O. Box 248, Windsor, VA 23487.
