Swamp on fire

The Dismal Swamp is on fire, sending acrid smoke north as far as Richmond, reminding me of a full-on smog alert in 1965 Los Angeles. They sky feels like purple rain is swallowing the city. Darien and I have fled to Minnesota, hoping the smoke will clear by the time we come home.

The Cabin Life

Although folks have differing opinions on what makes a cabin, most generally agree on one point: a cabin is a retreat from the world where you can kick back and just enjoy the simple pleasures of life. As a complement to our regular issue, Country's Best Cabins has also created a special lifestyle section aptly titled "Life at the Cabin," which is… Continue

A sad state of affairs

I find it very sad to read about a situation as described in this blog.  You can see right away that it was NOT the builders fault..
It is also sad to try to muddy the reputation of a hard working, knowledgeable and successful businessman because of  an owner's frustration and mistakes that Greg Parks had…

Living the Dream

I responded to the general blog so I'm not sure if I'm doing that again or if this is a seperate one. After having Greg Parks Builders construct our Kuhns Brother Log Home, I am very surprised that anyone would have a problem with Greg Parks. We live in Ohio and believe me I was concerned about having a contractor I knew very little about, building our vacation home in Maine. We too have 6 inch logs, and our home is not drafty at all. In fact it is very air tight.  We have fuel oil forced…

I would answer YES. In 2004 we hired Greg Parks Builders to build a Kuhns Bros Log Home for us in Stocton Springs, Maine.  The home is approximately 2000 sq ft, and built on the side of a hill over looking Penobscot Bay.  Our logs are are 6 inch also. The home has no air leaks at all. In fact when we light a fire in the fireplace we have to open a window to create a draft to start the fire.  The home is very tight and insulated well. We have a total of 6 sky lights.  Our heating system is oil,… Continue

It this living the dream?

This is an interesting and disturbing story, one which seems to be basically of the "he said, she said" type.  If Mr. Larrabee feels that unsatisfactory or contractually incomplete work was done he might be best off persuing legal channels of remedy vice venting his dissatisfaction on this web site.

That being said, I must say that Greg Parks was our GC when we built a Kuhns Brothers log home here in Searsmont, ME, back in 1996.  Since then his company has taken care of all our…
