Many people believe that the environmental movement is a fairly recent phenomenon originating around the first Earth Day in May of 1970. However, the modern environmental movement started well before Earth Day and quite frankly, led to this observance of the planet's fragile equilibrium between man and the environment. The root cause of this movement was the observation by many concerned people that the air, water and the natural eco-systems were under threat by over population and over… Continue

Apparently this Sunday, Oct 25th, at 8 pm, HGTV will have a one hour special on log homes. I don't know if this will be a repeat but Blue Ridge Modular Log Homes sent me an email announcing this.

Off grid system

I'm starting to plan my dream. Handcrafted, somewhere around 1800 sq ft. My property is off grid. I want to be as green as I can. I'm in northern Mn. My hope is geothermal and radiant floor heat, but I'm told that a solar/wind/battery system isn't enough to run the geothermal. There's gotta be a combo out there that will work. Perhaps adding an LP generator? I'm also looking into an outdoor wood boiler for the in floor heat? Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts? Thanks,

Autumn at the Log Home

This is my favorite time of year at our log home. Crunchy, colorful leaves, bonfires w/ marshmallows, and pumpkins all over the deck. I don't know of any other home that looks better in the fall season than a log home. Here's what it looks like right now in my neck of the woods. (How does it look by you?)…

Log Homes Direct ???? Log Homes 4 Less ??

Has anyone out there ever heard of a company called Log Homes Direct LLC or Log Homes for Less ? They are located in Rocky Mt. , North Carolina and supposedly offer supplies and materials via the internet. They have a kit for sale on Ebay. I've looked at dozens of different kit manufacturers but just recently stumbled upon this company. Does ANYONE out there know anything about them ?

We are on our way for out first step, our garage. We have what we think is a good price now all we have to do is save for a spring time build. We have 4 quotes from different log home suppliers that range from $80,000 - $120,000, now we have to take a close look at what their "complete" kit includes. We are having our garage builder take a look at our plans for the log home as he has build two log homes that were not from kits. Still looking at ways to cut some costs with the kitchen, flooring,… Continue

"The Build"

Well, today could be considered the start. We picked up our sewage permit today, finally approved after what seemed like forever, but was only 4 months! We had a family friend come and witch a well location for us and met with the excavator who is going to start the septic this week. Still finalizing the plans though. Hoping to have them finalized soon, so we can apply for our mortgage and break ground in November and build over the winter. While concerned somewhat with building over winter,… Continue
