Happy Thanksgiving all...

...and as he pulled out of sight, I heard him exclaim, "Happy Thanksgiving to all".

okay, okay... it's not original, but it has a catchy cadence and I'm too busy wrapping up things so that I can take some time off for the holiday... no time to think of anything creative. Instead, just let me say how thankful I am to call so many of you friends and hope that everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving… Continue

Announcing the spring 2009 show season!

Greetings to everyone in the Log Home Neighborhood!

After two great shows in northern Virginia and Tampa, I am proud to announce our 2009 spring schedule! We’ve worked very hard to research the best places to host a show based on where YOU are.

And so it begins...

I have always wanted a blog... and now I are one!

Here is my start to what I hope is a great way to make some new friends and help the log home community with whatever my knowledge can cover.

I know there are varied opinions as to "Professional Bloggers" on so I want to be sensitive to that. My goal is to be helpful wherever I can. Not a sales nut. If I cross that line please tell me.

For the immediate future, I just finished an interview with Tom… Continue

Make this Christmas special for a wounded Vet!

I posted a 'Salute to Veterans' last week on Veterans Day, and just today I received the following reminder from a fellow veteran and though I'd pass it along.

When doing your Christmas cards this year, take one card and send it to this address. If we pass this on and everyone sends one card, think of how many cards these wonderful special people who have sacrificed so much… Continue

Black Bears 2, Homeowner 1

As I've mentioned before, we have a lot of bear activity around our home. Just last month I posted "Bears... they're b-a-a-a-a-ck" here on this blog. Fortunately, these are black bears and not their unfriendly grizzly brothers. The problem is that as 'cute' as they are, and as much as we enjoy seeing them, they can be a pest when it comes to the contest of who gets the trash.

I think I just matched… Continue

Salute to Veterans

I just wanted to say thank you to all members of this community who are veterans. The fine people in our military do their job every day of the year and once each year we are reminded to pay tribute.

Thank you.

By order of the President of the United States , the Purple Heart established by General George Washington at Newburgh, August 7, 1782, during the War of the Revolution, is hereby revived out of respect to his… Continue

First Snowfall at the Log Home!

This is what I woke up to on Sunday morning. I think the first dusting of snow is the most beautiful! I am breaking out the Christmas music (okay, I have a confession to make - I made a mix of the Transiberian Orchestra Christmas music and I have been playing it since Halloween. My husband has now offered to pay me not to play it anymore.) - need to get hot chocolate and then start piling up on those Christmas decorations! I've got big outdoor… Continue

New neighbor intro!

My name is Jeffrey Iverson. Please excuse my writing because this is all new to me using a computer to talk to others. I am a computer dunce. I joined because I have had the dream of building log homes and living in a handcrafted log home some day. I was working for a custom home builder here in Reno at a gated private country club called montreux. I took a chance asking a lot of the homeowners my dream of building log homes and to my supprise one of them offered to loan me the money to get… Continue

Holiday Recipe Exchange - Log Home style

Ok, so it's not exactly log home related, but who doesn't like to eat—especially around the holidays, right? A few months ago, we created a Community recipe exchange in our Just For Fun forum. A few people posted, but we kind of let it die off. Now that the holiday season is upon us, member Glenn V has rekindled my enthusiasm by sharing his mother's recipe for Delicious Raw Apple Cake. Sounds perfect for Thanksgiving, and I can't wait to try it. Check it out and post your own culinary… Continue

Trade possibility

I have a home that I may be able to trade for acres and a log cabin kit that has been sitting in state for a year on the property. Much of the shrink wrap is torn and the material is exposed to the elements, varments and bugs. I am negotiating for the property swap but do not have a good idea as to what the kit is worth. I do not have specifics on the manufacturer, size, etc. but I guess my question is more generic. I would like some feedback and guidance as to whom to call to inspect and how… Continue

Packing up for the year update

Well as I mentioned before we decided on the Presby Enviro septic. I figured I would save some money on installation and do it my self. So after some studying and a couple tests I am now oficially certified to installthem. I might consider the instllation in the spring, if not I will do it the following year. So as the Title goes I have packed up for the year, bringing the backhoe home again and cleaning up the site in general. Got my tree stand all set and ready so I I can spend my weekends… Continue
