Trail Cabins are the greatest!

Appalachian Log Structures has a new Trail Cabin that's pre-built and is delivered on your site and set up for you. All you have to do is prepare a foundation and have your power and water ready to go and boom, you have a cabin set and ready to use. Plus the logs are Borate pressure treated so you don't have to worry about termites in your logs and your cabin already has a metal roof(you choose your color) windows and doors installed. You've gotta see this, it's really neat. If you're in the… Continue

I know what I saw

Its cold and boring here in Missouri, just for fun lets all share any stories of strange siteings in the skies or ghostly encounters. Alot of you folks live in the country, surely you've seen something or had an unexplainable experience. Alot of people seem to think this type of thing only happens to guy's who hunt and fish named Bubba. Are you a believer ?

Log Home/Hybrid

Has anyone added a pure log home addition to a conventional stick built house? We have the land that we want to build our log home on. It has a small (emphasis on small) circa 1945 house already on it. I was thinking that in order to save money, we'd build an addition for the great room/dining room/kitchen and use the existing house for bedrooms. We'd remodel & use log siding on the existing section. Any advice/thoughts?

Which reminds me, have any you checked out ? Great site! I just made some Amish Caramel Corn the other day that came out fabulous. I'm also making homemade banana sourcream bread and chocolate pretzel sticks. Are you making… Continue

1.) Log homes are not energy efficient

Most of these rumors have been started by individuals who have never lived in a log home or are "concerned" relatives giving free advice to other relatives who are considering building a log home. Now let me say that the log home that I am talking about is one that is well designed, manufactured to modern standards and built by someone who knows what they are doing.

Most building codes only recognize "R" factor which does not… Continue

Many people are interested in insulating vaulted or cathedral ceiling. In this type of structure there is no attic in which to spray insulation. According to the building code, in order to insulate underneath the roof deck you must install an air-impermeable barrier. 1.5″ of closed-cell foam or 5 inches of open cell foam constitute such a barrier.

Commonly in retrofit application the foam is installed from underneath the… Continue

We Want to See Your Home

We feature tons of homes each year in Country's Best Cabins, each with a unique story to tell. And although we wish we could feature every home that comes across our desk, there just simply aren't enough pages in the magazine to do so.

That being said, there is a specific group of homes that we'd like to feature more often: those of our readers. We feature a photo gallery in each issue of Country's Best Cabins highlighting a few homes belonging to log-home enthusiasts such as… Continue
