Log Home Design Awards Announced In Orlando, FL

The most innovative floor plans and designs in the log home industry were singled out during the second annual Log Home Design Awards held in Orlando, Florida, on March 8, 2008. The dinner gala was held in conjunction with The Log & Timber Home Show, one of a dozen Home Buyer Publications’ sponsored shows that connects consumers looking to buy, refurbish or outfit a log home with appropriate companies.

“Even with the current state of the housing market, the enthusiasm for log homes is still going strong,” according to Log Home Design Editor-in-Chief Donna Peak, who hosted the event. “It may take prospective buyers a little longer to make their dreams come true than it would have two years ago, but the dream is still alive and well.”

Laurie Sloan, Group Publisher of Home Buyer Publications agreed that log homes represent a segment of the home market that is still very much in demand by consumers. “Log homebuyers recognize that this slow housing market provides them with a great opportunity to build their dream home more quickly and less expensively than has been possible in recent years,” she said. “Furthermore, these homes are energy efficient and environmentally friendly, which speaks to those with heightened interest in ‘green’ housing.”

The Log Home Design editorial staff meticulously sifted through hundreds of entries to select the contest’s 10 winners and 10 runners up in categories ranging from “best floor plan under 2,500 square feet” to “most creative use of outdoor spaces.” The criteria centered around feedback from readers and show attendees as to the kinds of features they’re looking for in a log home.

“We were astounded at the number of entries we received, but we weren’t at all surprised by their quality,” said Peak. “Log home designers create smart, functional floor plans laden with unique architectural details. Narrowing the field to our 20 winners was difficult to say the least, but these homes emerged as the best and brightest.”
