The Log Home Neighborhood

An online log home community for log home enthusiasts.

I think when I joined our group I was number 134 or close to it. Being that there were so few of us it was not surprising that very few were lucky enough to own a log home. At last count, I think the number of members is over 530 plus. With that come more folks who own log homes. But I find that most of the people who do own log homes simply state that they are owners and leave it at that. So my request of those of you who do own the home of our dreams is simple, PLEASE SHARE IT. Take some pictures and upload them to the photo section of the LogHomeU web site. Share your thoughts when you went through the building stage. Tell us about any problems you ran into and how you solved them.
But most of all take a lot of pictures. The exterior, the property, the kitchen, the living room, the dining area, the bathrooms. Many like me, who are still looking forward to seeing the bulldozer lift out the first shovel full of dirt, are hungary for information. To paraphrase our Roman ancestors ... We who are about to build, salute you.

Hey Ted. I can't tell you how much money I've spent on log home shows, log home magazines, books, hours at the computer, etc., but I agree that talking to actual folks that have been through it (folks who don't necessarily have the big bucks), really helps the most. I plan to add photos of each stage of our own process along and along on my page and I'm sure I'll have lots of questions for the members here. I'm just glad this website is so user friendly! Hope you'll come check my photos out now and then, and I'll work hard to keep them coming. Good luck on your new adventure! (Me too)

Ted, I remember when I was in my dreaming, stories and tidbits from log home owners were the things I most wanted from the various log home forums. I promised myself that when I was fortunate enough to be an 'owner' instead of a 'dreamer' I would share my experience - the trouble is, when you are in the midst of building it is so hard to remember to take pictures and write down stories........I will most definately try to share more than I have to date, thanks for the reminder.

You are absolutely right Josie. There are so many pieces to the building process that it is virtually impossible to know them all. Plus, I have to believe that sharing information is one of the major reasons for the LogHomeU website to be in existence. If you want to get an education, go through the member list and you will find that the majority of members have hopes of owning a log home but don't. There are probably a multitude of reasons that they do not currently own... but when they are ready wouldn't it be great if the whole building process was made easier simply because some caring people were generous enough to share their experiences with them.

Ted, that is a great idea, we are also collecting information for are future log home and would love to read and see pictures of other log homes as well as getting information of any problems they encountered throughout the building process. Also it would be great if they could share regrets they have about not adding or forgetting to add certain things or spaces to the homes. PLEASE SHARE IT.
