HVAC Failure: 5 Signs it is Time for a New Heating Unit

Your heating system is important. Not only does it keep your home comfortable, but it also helps your plumbing function so your pipes don’t freeze. If you notice any signs of failure in your heating system, it might be time for a new heating unit.

Your Energy Bills Are High

An unusually high energy bill is a signal of a failing heating system. Rule out any other causes for a high bill, but always look into your heating system. Sometimes, the fix can be simple. Other times, you may need to replace the whole system.

There’s a Lot of Dust

If you notice there’s a lot of dust in your home, the heating system may be to blame. When your heating system isn’t functioning properly, it doesn’t filter the dust the way it should. You may need a new heating unit installation to fix the problem.

Your House Just Won’t Heat Up

Homeowners who struggle to keep their home at a comfortable temperature may need a new heating system. If your house has “cold spots” or gets too warm despite what you have your thermostat set to, a new heating system may be the solution. Keep in mind, though, that some homes do not have proper ductwork done. If you get a new heating system and you’re still having trouble with your home heating up, it may be a good idea to look into the ductwork.

Sounds and Smells

If your heat smells like something is burning or if your unit makes a lot of “clunking” noises, it may be failing. Your heating system should not be overly loud and should not cause any strange smells in your home. If it is, you probably need a new heating system.

Your Unit Is Old

Even though it may seem that the unit is working, chances are it’s actually failing. Heating systems are not meant to last more than 10 years. When your heating unit hits that 10-year mark, it’s a good idea to start looking into new units for your home.

Since a heating unit is such an essential part of any home, it’s important to make sure it’s functioning. A failing heating unit could cause discomfort in your home, could lead to unnecessarily high energy bills and could even put you at risk for health problems from the buildup of dust in your home. If you have signs of a failing heating system, look into a new one.
