Nothing says Christmas like a good single malt, so Darien proffered a bottle to Mr. Seals with our heartfelt thanks for all the work he has done on the cabin. Mr. Seals was in similar spirits, for he immediately brought out a bottle of kahlua he had made for us. It reminded me of my mother, who also made her own kahlua. Christmas was the time she would make sour cream cookies and kolache. I asked my sisters for her cookie recipe last week, since I wanted to bake them at our upcoming vacation when we stay in a renovated barn in the Shenandoah. My sisters each gave me recipes with slight variations, which is also a family tradition.
