Take the doorbell, for example. An inexpensive electric chime was installed during the first renovation, but somewhere during the reconstruction it was disconnected and no longer functions. We have been without one since we moved in last April. But in anticipation of our new house, Antonia had used last year's Christmas money from my mother to fund a new bell. Eventually we selected one and Mr. Seals recently installed it, so visitors no longer need feel ignored when they press the old button and no one comes to the door. Almost a full year for a doorbell -- not too bad.
