The Log Home Neighborhood

An online log home community for log home enthusiasts.

Most of these are from my own experience (a 1937 log cabin in the woods), so they may not apply to everyone. Probably most people would fork over the cash for new outlets at least!

Your walls get just as dusty as your shelves.

You see more live deer than roadkill.

Half the ingredients in your dinner are from your garden.

You don't own a lawn mower, because you don't own a lawn (one of the potential benefits of living in the middle of the woods!).

Your kids know they're almost home when they hear gravel under the car instead of pavement.

The kids all fight over who gets the basement bedroom--that's the only room where they can paint the walls.

Your house has the same number of power outlets as it did in 1937--before laptops, DVD players, and cell phones.

You have a bridge to get from the driveway to the house, due to living on the steep side of a mountain.

Anyone else have a few to share?

You might live in a log home if....

You open the window and hear frogs croaking in the pond instead of sirens.
You don't have blinds or curtains on any of the windows.
You don't have a doorbell and the door is never locked.... and the coffee is always on.
You can see the northern lights.
Your friend can land his plane in the hay field next to your home.

You may live in a log home if…….
You have considered or have solar, wind or a back up generator.
You have an axe to grind.
You appreciate nature and don’t want to tame it.
You go online in your spare time.
You look at a tree and wonder how old it is.
You have a gun that is loaded for bear.
You get lost in your own back yard.
You breathe deeply and don’t cough
You can see the big dipper
You have several books on mushrooms, birds, trees or natural herbs.
You have a compost pile.
A storm blows thru and you wake up after……
You post here .

Great idea! Love those posted so far; here's a few more......

*Porches/decks double the sq footage of your first floor
*Weed eater is all the lawn care equipment you need
*You get lulled to sleep at night by the sound of the creek below
*Following local speed limits become the norm
*"Turkey Crossing" signs are posted along the road

If your idea of a traffic jam is waiting for the deer (elk, wild turkeys, moose) to cross the road in front of you.

You have more wildlife for neighbors than people.

An office meeting is a gathering of chipmunks around the bird feeder.

The knocking at the door is a woodpecker and not a salesman.

Thanks Emily, it made me smile. A fun twist on Jeff Foxworthyisms......

You might live in a log home if you ring a dinner bell instead of texting......
You might live in a log home if your vehicles are written in the road dust, WASH ME!!.....
You might live in a log home if you can smile at a traffic jam.....
You might live in a log home if you can actually hear birds singing instead of trucks on the interstate or the neighbors lawn mowers.....
You might live in a log home if your hair grows back.... Rogaine ala log.....

Great blog, Emily! I'll add a couple: You might live in a log cabin if.....
* You split your own firewood
* You stop to look at the stars and fireflies
* The birds recognize you and keep coming back
* You see more hummingbirds than Starbucks
* You cook on a outdoor fire more than twice a year.
* Your neighbors know your name and watch out for your place.
* You enjoy the sounds of silence.
* You enjoy the smell of sheets hung outside on a clothes line.
* Entertaining friends means something other than playing the Wii together.
* You sleep with the windows open most of the year.
* You love sharing this place with your Sweetie and there is no place you'd rather be.

Regards, Norb
